Well, this is my second world cruise scheduled for the Falkland Islands and the weather prevented any hope of a landing. With 40 foot seas the Captain made it quite clear yesterday that we would not be able to safely tender to shore. I am disappointed as I don’t think I will be coming this way again. We may be getting an extra day in Buenos Aires but nothing definite at this typing.

LATER: Can’t get a birth early so we will be floating around until our regular schedule stop at Buenos Aires. Our Captain, who calls himself Captain Olaf, got on the horn this morning and said “guess who?” He has a great sense of humor. He went on to tell us that we had been through 20 to 40 foot swells, and hurricane winds of 40 to 80 mph.

The seas are now calm and the sun is out. Looks like we will have some hot weather shortly.

  1. Remember Margo on the QE2. Our miss that day was her third one for the Falklands .... and then my sister got in the first time she tried. I still want to go there ... wonder how many "shots at it" I will need. Maybe better to fly in.

  2. Oh, so sorry about not being able to go onto the Falklands! Sob. And to piddle along that muddy River Platt up towards Montevideo and Buenos Aires. But it remains an adventure. If Susan flies into Port Stanley, she'll have to schedule a Piper Cub or use her own wings. LOL. I am beginning to believe that the Falkland Islands are a figment of our imagination. Don.

  3. Maybe the cruise lines should consult the Agentinians about how one gets to the Faulklands. After all they were able to land a small army before anyone saw them coming.

  4. What a bummer :-( Too bad the captain couldn't pull a "U'y" & go back once the nice weather came through. Like Don said, the adventure will continue & we will all be waiting to hear more from you.
    Love,
