First, I was able to read your comments and I don’t have the answers regarding Virtuoso but I will check to see if they have a representative on board and ask their representative. Cruise Specialist didn’t give us free tours but you received $400 credit on the tours or as a credit on your shipboard account. Second, yes the river is still muddy and I believe muddier as I don’t recall it being this dark.
I took two tours in Buenos Aires; the basic city tour and then the tango dinner at night. During the morning tour it was pouring. Even some thunder and lightening. Very unusual weather we were told. El Nino. Couldn’t get a decent shot of the balcony where Eva Peron would greet her supporters (the peronistas) because of construction and the weather. But I did get this shot of her grave marker in the old cemetery. The cemetery is like a city with streets and buildings. Very interesting. Buenos Aires is larger than Rio do Janero or at least it appears so and it is a very modern city with a lot of sky scrapers.
That night we boarded our buses for the jaunt to Senor Tango. My dinner was awful as I made the mistake of ordering chicken rather than the steak. This plate is a regular size and the Argentine steak covered 1/3rd of the surface and was about 2 l/2 inches thick. That is why I ordered the chicken as I would eat about an inch of the steak. The chicken was so dried out you couldn’t even poke it with a fork. The other food with it was good so I didn’t complain. I was afraid they bring me one of those giant steaks.
This is Ellen one of my trivia team members and she sat with my Mom, Marcie, Joan and me. The tango show was excellent but it was long and I was beat. This was one of our CSI tours and we lost another world cruiser this time to a fall, broken hip and then surgery for a hip replacement. We are now down to 168.
The next day Joan and I went on a mission. We did get a pedicure but there was not enough time to get a manicure.
For days now the tour supervisor and speaker has been telling people not to wear jewelry and good watches like a Rolex. Well, one man did not heed the warnings. A guy jumped on his back, knocked him to the ground and cut the band of his Rolex. It all took less than ten seconds. He then ran away, jumped on a scooter and vanished with the Rolex, of course. Another scheme is the mustard squirt. Someone sprays mustard on your clothes and while you are trying to wipe it off they get your wallet, camera, or whatever else they think they can sell.. Well, our fellow passenger had listened and when the mustard was sprayed he started yelling. He didn’t lose a thing.
What newsy reports you give! It makes it feel like we are there, and, yes, I could just taste that giant steak. Glad you saw Evita's grave. You realize you're never far from danger, don't you? Muggings, heart attacks, knee operations, snatchings. Just like Little Dick of the QE2 with the band of folks in Saigon who use a razor on him. I think ketchup would be more dramatic than mustard to use in the squirter. Don.
ReplyDeleteYou really have to be so carefull anywhere these days. I try to look as poor as possible (and do a pretty good job of it). El Nino is hitting here also ... we have had about 85 inches of snow so far this winter with Feb/March still to go. Roof was shoveled yesterday. I would rather be cruising.

I love all your juicy tales and wonderful photos. I look forward to each new posting!! I have booked the full world cruise of the new Queen Elizabeth for 2011. My husband will join me for a month from Singapore to Southampton. The QM2 will be in Sydney on the same days as the QE so I may see Don and Charlie but definitely will see them when I am on the QM2 for the QM2 crossing back to New York.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and healthy! Patti
