This is my last post for my 2013 world  cruise blog.  I have put a deposit on the 2015 world cruise but I am not sure whether I will actually  be on it.  I  definitely am not going on the 2014.

We  tendered to one of the islands of French Guiana which includes the infamous Devil’s Island.  I actually walked around the lower part of the Iles Du Salut and saw monkeys and sea turtles.  Unfortunately my little camera didn’t do justice to the sea turtles even though they were huge.  They kind of blended into the rocks.
The island is very tropical  and lush and quite beautiful.  But, hot and humid.

After that we stopped at  St. Lucia which is a typical Caribbean island.  The people there are obviously use to the mega ships visiting the Caribbean on a regular basis.  Most items are made in China and very over priced.  Us world travelers want bargains.    Also, I found the people either indifferent or rude.  We are not use to that kind of treatment.

I enjoyed the steel band show we had back on the ship.  They were fantastic but they certainly have come a long way from the old oil drums.

It has been a good cruise but I have not  been as active.  Read a lot more and I found  that I avoided steps and hills.  Any decision I make will take that into consideration especially in booking future shore tours.

So, I will say goodbye for now.

  1. Thanks for keeping us informed with your World cruise. I'm pleased that you enjoyed it. I guess it has been annoying to find that you don't find hills and steps as easy as they may have seemed in 2008, but you have had a serious illness since then AND we are all 5 years older!

  2. That stinks your last port was a dissappointment. When we visited St Lucia we took a tour into the jungle & played in a waterfall. It ended up being 1 of our fav ports but had little interaction w the people. I think you're going to be like your fellow traveler taking world cruises at 98 yrs young. I'm excited to look thru your Picts & all the treasures you have aquirred along your trip. Have a safe flight home & we will see you soon. Lots of love, Rach

  3. Hi Judi,

I am also looking at 2015.... and I find that I have slowed down quite a bit... like you, we will see. I may settle for shorter, more targeted cruises. Enjoyed your blog. Keep in touch.

  4. So good to know you are happy --- and happy includes going home after a long trip. I now feel my age and have slowed down --- steps and long standing seem to go against my body wishes! I first felt it with those damn steps at Elephanta Caves in Mumbai on 2012 WC. I have put down a refundable deposit for my old cabin on Lower Promenade Deck near the bow for 2015. I like to have a piece of cheese dangling in front of my "brain." Hello to all, especially those old friends from the QE2.
