I am going to post more photos than usual of the Maldives and in particular Mali, the smallest capital on earth. The city is magnificent with the most exotic buildings and the skyline is marvelous. It was impossible to get into one photo from the ship as it is on a flat island and spreads to one end to the next. The buildings are built right to the edge of the island with a street running between the buildings and the Indian Ocean. The other islands are much more green and less developed.

I have taken some shots of scenes including the top of the mosque which was quite beautiful I saw a sign with a cross over cameras and was a little concerned about being arrested for taking mosque shots. There was also a sign over a doorway that said Terrorist Support Here. That really freaked me out. AND, motorbikes everywhere. I have never been in a country where I felt I had a bulls eye painted on my back and my front. You literally had to dodge motorbikes and when crossing a street you had to run like hell if there was a lull between cars and motorbikes.

The cemetery had an unusual arrangement of graves as you can see and this day, tuna was being brought in and of course the market was interesting. Just three shots I thought you might enjoy.

I still love sail aways and the sun this night was bright red as it was setting. All in all the city is quite fascinating but Hot and humid and after a couple of hours of a walk about it was all I could take.

  1. The sunset with the fishing boat sailing across is breathtaking. It gave me a relaxed sense of "awe". I am loving all of your picts & can't wait for you to come home so we can see ALL of them on the powerpoint. It's so crazy that you are seeing & experiencing the world (coastally). I can only wish to be as fortunate. Love, Rach PS, Robin says Hi. She opens up the blog once in a while, but just doesn't post.

  2. PSS, Don't get arrested. Your camera is small enough, just slip it down your blouse. They can't say anything if the evidence is not there. And I doubt they're going to frisk you. LOL

  3. Hi, Judi -- I'm catching up on the entries I've missed. You certainly are covering a lot of varied territory. I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable traveling around some of the places that you've visited, especially when you have thugs demanding your passports! It takes a true sense of adventure to travel into some places. Glad that you are enjoying your experiences. Thanks for keeping us posted.
